We are now closed for the season. It was another fabulous year, and we would like to thank all our customers for their continued enthusiasm, ice cream cravings and general support.

Happy holiday to one and all! Have a wonderful winter and see you first thing in the spring. We will be opening again in April. Stay tuned!

Tarte à sucre/ Sugar pie ice cream

One of our staff was brainstorming one wet and slow day at the shop and came up with the idea for a yummy new flavour. Sugar pie ice cream. Using her grandfather’s recipe for the pie, we added a little Cigale stamp of our own and whipped up a couple of batch this morning. And while it’s too early to make this claim, I think it’s a hit! Thanks Lolo, great idea! It will be out tomorrow. Let us know what you think.

Pendant un jour lente à la boutique un membre de notre personnel a eu l’idée d’une nouvelle saveur délicieuse: crème glacée à la tarte à sucre. Avec la recette de son grand-père pour la tarte, nous avons ajouté un peu de magie Cigale et a fait 6 tub ce matin. C`est trop tôt pour le déclarer, mais moi je pense que c`est un grand succès! Merci Lolo, bonne idée! Il sera disponible à partir de demain. Faites-nous savoir ce que vous en pensez.

Pie with that ice cream? De la tarte avec votre crème glacée?

Mmmm, what could go better with ice cream than pie. Especially at this time of year. We are bringing fresh pies for Thanksgiving- Pumpkin, pecan, apple. We will also bring in blueberry, peach, cranberry apple, raspberry and strawberry-rhub…arb on special order. So please call or email ahead to reserve one for the weekend so you are not disappointed.

Mmmm, il n’y a rien de mieux que de la tarte avec votre crème glacée. Surtout à cette temps de l’année. Nous aurons des tartes fraîches pour le weekend de l’action de grâce – citrouille, pécan, et pomme. Nous aurons également aux bleuets, pêches, pomme et canneberge, framboises et fraises-rhubarbe sur commande spéciale. Alors, s’il vous plaît appelez ou envoyez un courriel à l’avance pour réserver une pour le week-end afin que vous n’êtes pas déçu.

Peanut Brittle ice cream / Crème glacée arachide croquant

Hier, pour la première fois cette année, Maggie a fait le croquant aux arachides. C’est génial! Je ne peux pas arrêter de grignoter l’excédent. Elle fait le meilleur arachide croquant! Belle texture croquante et ô tellement d’arachides! Je ne sais pas pourquoi la saveur me rappelle l’automne! C’est peut-être le fait qu’il commence a faire frais et ca me donne envie de me gâter. Essayez-le et lais…sez-moi savoir ce que vous en pensez. … Egalement, les tartes à la citrouille arrivent bientôt!

Yesterday, for the first time this year, Maggie made Peanut Brittle ice cream. It’s so good. I couldn’t stop munching on the left over bits of brittle. She makes good brittle – with a good snap and oh so peanuty! Yum! I don’t know why but peanut brittle seems like a fall flavour to me. I think the cooler temperatures somehow make me feel like I should be spoiled. Come try some and let me know what you think….. by the way, Pumpkin Pie ice cream is on the way. Stay tuned!

Keep summer alive!

Big sigh! I’m afraid summer is quickly coming to an end. It’s starting to get darker earlier and staff are getting ready to head back to school next week….. NEXT WEEK!!!! How did this happen?! One day it’s July 1st and the next thing you know, you’re out buying school supplies for back to school…. I guess it’s the sign of a good summer. Regardless, Cigale is cutting back it’s hours.

Starting Monday August 26th, we will be closing at 9:00 instead of 10:00 – Fridays and Saturdays we will stay open until 9:30. But we are still here everyday until Thanksgiving, so you still have lots of time to fill those cravings.

KEEP SUMMER ALIVE! EAT LOTS OF ICE CREAM!

Music in the garden

Tomorrow evening we have Jill Jeffrey and friends playing live music in our yard. If you’re around, come check it out. Should be a great evening, with a little homemade ice cream thrown in the mix. How can you go wrong? Starts at 7:30. Bring a folding chair or blanket – or come early to snag an Adirondack.

Nut free option

For years, it’s been driving me crazy that we had nothing to offer kids (and adults) who have serious nut allergies. I know how hard it is for this group to eat out, and how disappointing it is for kids to not be able to join other kids in this quintessential summer experience.

For those of you who have a serious nut allergy, La Cigale is now carrying a nut-free, gluten-free ice cream cookie sandwich. Unfortunately it is not made by us – but that is why we can guarantee that it is nut free. It is made by an organic dairy in Ontario called Mapletons and is a great product. Packaged in their nut free factory – it really is the only way we can guarantee it is, in fact, nut free.

So sorry it’s taken us so long, but it’s finally here. Come on in and try one. We’d love to hear what you think. So please give us your feedback.

Mmmmmm Strawberry!

We haven’t added any new flavours to the Cigale line up yet this year, but we have tinkered with a few of our recipes. Here’s one that’s a real winner - Strawberries and Sour Cream, and wow, is it ever good, (if I do say so for myself). It’s soft, creamy and the strawberries just jump. I can’t stop eating samples of it.

First days

It’s so nice to be open again and see all the happy faces of customer’s excited to have their first ice cream of the season. Sunny afternoons are cheering everyone up and bringing them out of doors. Day 2 and it’s been a great opening. Lots of familiar faces and and big smiles. There may still be snow on the ground, but it’s feeling like spring at last!
